Envirotec enjoys growing demand for refurbishment of air-handling units

Envirotec, AHU refurbishment
Replacing major components such as fans and motors during the refurbishment of AHUs can significantly improve performance and efficiency.

With more building owners opting for refurbishment rather than replacement, Envirotec reports a sharp increase in demand for its refurbishment services for air-handling units. The company’s Ron Flewett explains, ‘Even 20-to-30-year-old AHUs can be successfully refurbished with a major improvement in performance — and the financial and environmental savings are very significant.’

His experience over many years is that refurbishing rather than replacing achieves cost savings of 20 to 30%. Other benefits are reduced maintenance costs and improved energy efficiency — as well as the sustainability benefits.

Work can be planned in phases to minimise disruption. Refurbishment is often a popular option if access to existing plant is difficult.

The scope of an AHU refurbishment can range from replacement of components with modern and more efficient designs through to replacement of whole sections or the addition of new sections. Adding new sections enables duties to be increased cost effectively.
