Selby project showcases benefits of Marshall-Tufflex Twin Plus trunking

The availability of Marshall-Tufflex Twin Plus trunking in standard and anti-microbial versions led to it being selected for a new building in Selby comprising healthcare facilities and council offices.

The many benefits of Marshall-Tufflex Twin Plus cable-management system are utilised in a project to colocate a community hospital, health centre and civic centre into a shared new building in Selby. The £22 million Selby Community Project is a joint venture between the NHS North Yorkshire & York and Selby District Council to rebuild the town’s War Memorial Hospital and health clinic and provide new council offices at the same time.

Twin Plus trunking is available in standard and anti-microbial versions, so consulting engineers DSSR could specify standard trunking for the council offices and anti-microbial Bio Twin Plus for the hospital.

Mahesh Mehta, executive electrical engineer with DSSR, explains, ‘Having the Twin Plus profile available in the Bio anti-microbial version enabled us to achieve a constant design aesthetic throughout the building, as well as making economic sense on such a large order. It also meant the electrical contractor was required to install just one profile throughout while still offering the really valuable properties of an anti-microbial trunking system where it matters most — in the healthcare environment.

The trunking was installed by Airedale Mechanical & Electrical.

Silver-ion protection is added to Bio’s PVC-u formulation during manufacture, so it continues to provide protection if the trunking is scratched or knocked. Tests to ISO 22196:2007 show the survival rate of tested bacteria to be less than 0.1%.
