R410A VRF systems can reuse R22 pipework

MHI, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries,VRF air conditioning

The R22 Renew system from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries enables existing pipework to be retained when replacing an older R22 VRF air-conditioning systems with an R410A system. A new FDCR outdoor unit will be required, but it is often possible to reuse existing indoor units.

Des Franklin, sales manager with MHI, says, ‘Our R22 Renew package for VRF systems allows you to reuse existing pipework and indoor units with our new KX FDCR 410A outdoor units. This could save more than 50% of the cost of completely ripping out an old system to make way for an all-new R410A system.’

The R22 Renew package consists of two elements. They are an R22 oil scavenge removal sump and isolator valve kit and a new FDCR outdoor unit that charges the existing system with R410A. The scavenge pump can be hired from an MHI distributor.

The R22 Renew system is being launched with 8 and 10 hp outdoor units to match the capacity of older MHI R22 units. These units have regulators to ensure the refrigerant pressure does not exceed the capability of the older pipework.
