KoolDuct is best treatment for new NHS centre

KoolDuct
Over 6000 m2 of Kingspan’s KoolDuct preinsulated ducting has been used in risers and ceiling voids in this NHS treatment centre in Birmingham.
Conditioned air for the £32 million NHS Birmingham Treatment Centre is distributed by ductwork based on 6000 m2 of Kingspan’s KoolDuct system. It was installed by Crown House Engineering, whose Gary Hague explains, ‘The fact that KoolDuct is pre-insulated and does not require additional lagging made it ideal because of the confined ceiling void, which had to carry all services, as well as the ducting. In addition, the ease and speed of installation was a significant advantage on a project where there was a number of other trades on site.’ This 3-storey glass-and-steel centre was built for Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust on its City Hospital site. The walk-in centre has six operating theatres with recovery facilities for 34 patients. Patients with conditions such as varicose veins and hernias will be seen diagnosed and, in some cases, treated and sent home in less than 24 h. It is expected to serve around 170 000 patients a year.
