Agricultural showroom turns to heat pumps for space-heating needs
With oil being expensive and mains gas not available, two 43 kW Ecodan CAHV air-source heat pumps from Mitsubishi Electric have been installed to heat the new showroom in Colchester of agricultural-machinery specialist P. Tuckwell Ltd. The system serves underfloor heating for the 65 m2 showroom via a plate heat exchanger and also supplies hot water for radiators in the offices.
James Tuckwell, joint managing director of P. Tuckwell, explained, ‘We looked briefly at the possibility of mains gas, but due to our location we would have needed to install a mains pipe, which is rather costly.’
This system can deliver 86 kW at an ambient of -3°C, with minimal drop off down to -20°C, including defrost. COPs of up to 3.2 can be achieved, with 69% of output being renewable energy.
The system was installed by renewable-energy specialist Climate & Power.
Mitsubishi’s monobloc system provides outputs from 18 to 688 kW in 0.5 kW increments.
