A showcase for Legrand’s power-distribution capabilities — the Mann Island development in Liverpool.

Busbar-based solutions from Electrak and Zucchini distribute power through Block 3 of the £135 million Mann Island development at Liverpool’s Pier Head. It is a World Heritage Site on the banks of the River Mersey.

This development by Neptune Developments and Countryside Properties comprises three black-granite buildings overlooking a tiered canal basin and locks that link it with the Albert Dock complex. Facilities include restaurants, retail and office space. It is already home to Starbucks, Merseytravel and the Open Eye Gallery.

The power-distribution system was specified by Hannan Associates and M&E Sub-contractor Smith Group, which was operating from MEP design performance criteria set by Cundall.

The specification included Zucchini rising-main busbar and tap-offs, Electrak’s buscom trunking, lighting control, power-track underfloor busbar and floor boxes. The company’s desk modules were also specified by Merseytravel for its 1300 m2 of office space.

Steve Marr, marketing manager for Legrand’s power-distribution division, says, ‘Mann Island perfectly showcases our capabilities — especially when you take into account the way busbar solutions have completely changed the planning, installation, maintenance and upgrading of electrical installations.

‘All the specified products have the busbar benefit of plug-and-play capability, which means the electrical installation is no longer a rigid backbone but can be utilised as the foundation for a truly flexible and appealing commercial space.’
