Gas absorption heat pumps can work with condensing boilers

Remeha Commercial, absorption heat pump, space heating, Part L, Building Regulations

Remeha Commercial’s range of air-source gas absorption heat pumps is suitable for space heating in new commercial buildings, either with condensing boilers or in cascade operation. Fuel efficiency is around 144% (GCV), even at low ambient temperatures — resulting in significant reductions in operating costs and carbon emissions.

The refrigerant is ammonia, which has zero global-warming potential, providing a credit in BREEAM assessment ratings. Units can be connected with the company’s range of condensing boilers, with Open Therm controls available to achieve maximum energy efficiency.

There are high- and low-temperature versions.

The high-temperature version has maximum flow/return temperatures of 65/55°C for systems such as radiators and fan coils.

The low-temperature version has maximum flow/return temperatures of 55/45°C and is suitable for prolonged operation at return temperatures below 25°C.

Up to 48 units can be operated in cascade, using natural gas or LPG. Heating is continuous, even in thaw phase and automatic defrosting. Units are delivered in a weatherproof casing for outdoor installation.

Mark Northcott, managing director of Remeha Commercial, says, ‘We consider gas-absorption heat-pump technology one of the best means of harnessing renewable energy for heating. Our new range offers a versatile solution to low-carbon heating that is able to support a wide range of systems and solutions, most commonly in conjunction with our range of renewable-ready commercial condensing boilers.’
