HVCA Centenary Convention is never-to-be-repeated opportunity to travel through time
Presidents from contracting organisation on several continents and from many European countries will visit the Centenary Convention of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors’ Association at Harrogate from 9 to 13 June. HVCA’s first president, David Nesbit, will also be there (played by an actor). Escaping the trials and tribulations of Edwardian London, David Nesbit will travel through the decades, reviewing what has changed for the association and the industry since those half-forgotten days — and what has remained remarkably the same. Our predecessors’ attempts to solve the dilemmas of their own day will be recalled, along with what can be learned from them and how matters can best be taken forward in the future. Top-flight speakers at the convention include Michael Portillo MP, Martin O’Neill MP (Chairman of the House of Commons Trade & Industry Select Committee), Roger Flanagan (Professor of Construction Management at the University of Reading) and Terry Wyatt (immediate past president of CIBSE). The event is open to the industry at large, with the conference programme supported by social and partners’ programmes. HVCA President Brian Townsend says, ‘I hope that colleagues from throughout the industry will join me at the event and, by their presence, help to guarantee a lively, stimulating and unforgettable experience for all.’
