Consultant wins hat trick of sporting projects

Steven Hunt & Associates, consultant

Building-services consultancy Steven Hunt & Associates has been awarded three projects with a combined value of £15 million to design the M&E services for sporting facilities in the north of England.

One is for a revamped sports facility at Hope University in Liverpool, which will be connected to the university’s Health Science Building designed by the practice last year. The scheme includes the refurbishment of an existing sports hall and a new-build-extension to provide a more varied range of activities and increased capacity. Features include 11.15 kW of solarPV.

Another project is for a new 694 m2 sports hall at Halifax Grammar School. The specification includes a BMS-controlled heating, cooling and ventilation system. Radiant panel heating and natural ventilation in the sports hall is linked to temperature and CO2 sensors. There is 28 kW of solarPV

The lighting in both projects has been designed in compliance with Sport England requirements for multi-sports environments, with LED lighting that can be programmed for different activities.

The third project is for Great Sankey Leisure Centre in Warrington. It includes the retention and refurbishment of the existing swimming pool — along with a new-build extension that includes changing rooms, gym, social areas and tennis courts.
