House of Fraser buys into energy efficiency

Lochinvar
This prefabricated plant room for House of Fraser in Maidstone incorporates Lochinvar boilers and water heaters for energy efficiency.
Lochinvar boilers and water heaters have been used in a prefabricated plant room for a new House of Fraser store in Maidstone. Constant Air Systems made the plant room and selected the Lochinvar equipment in conjunction with Dowling Blunt Building Services. Two Power-Fin PFB2000CE boilers and two CE500 Automatic Charger water heaters were prepiped and installed into the skid-mounted plant room. The whole unit was delivered to site and lifted into position as a finished plant room. On-site work involved little more than connecting pipework, minimising site disruption. David Pepper, Lochinvar’s managing director, says of the project, ‘The selection of independent boilers and direct gas-fired water heaters encourages energy efficiency. Both are sized to meet their own demand, and boilers can be shut down in summer months when space heating is not required.’ Power-Fin boilers match output to demand with a variable-frequency drive increasing thermal efficiency by supplying the correct amount of gas to the burner. This minimises cycling and limits excessive heat, resulting in complete combustion and a net thermal efficiency of 96%.’
