NG Bailey to build new hospital energy centre

Published:  02 August, 2017

contractor, NG Bailey

NG Bailey has been appointed principal contractor by North Tees & Hartlepool Foundation Trust to construct a new energy centre at the University Hospital of North Tees. This £14 million project will be on the existing hospital estate and house a new primary intake substation.

It will have N+1 emergency generators, CHP, boiler plant and associated 30 m-high stacks, oil-fuel storage and distribution, water storage and associated M&E infrastructure.

The NG Bailey team developed a detailed methodology showing how the complex critical services will be maintained during the build phase, as well as the commissioning and switchover protocol to transfer from the aging infrastructure to the new substations.

As part of its principal-contractor role, NG Bailey will also be responsible for delivering building works, including the superstructure and forming of the major energy centre building complex. Two reinforced-concrete below-ground walkways will be created to link the energy centre to the existing hospital infrastructure.

The new energy centre will be more reliable, more energy efficient and more environmentally friendly. It will be operational in 2018.
