German tests give Breezair evaporative air cooling a clean bill of health

Breezair
Tests carried out in Germany have demonstrated the ability of Breezair evaporative air coolers to improve air quality and the absence of health hazards.
Seeley International claims to have become the only manufacturer of evaporative air-cooling systems in the world to achieve compliance with VDI Standard 6022. The company’s products are available in the UK as Breezair. Endorsement has been attained for part three of the standard relating to hygiene standards for ventilation and air-conditioning systems in production facilities and business enterprises. The tests were performance by the Labor Dr. Rabe HygieneConsult laboratories in Germany, which carries out quality-management accreditation according to DIN ISO/IEC 17025. Seeley was awarded the certificate after 16 months of live testing of its Breezair system at furniture manufacturer Mathias Wiemann near Osnabrück in Germany, where the air was already laden with bacteria, spores and endotoxins. During testing, it was found that Breezair air coolers, which were set up with a daily pad drying cycle of 60 minutes, removed 53% of bacteria from the air. Testing also found that Breezair measurably reduced fungal spores and that endotoxins were reduced by 25%. During the 16 months of tests, the laboratory was unable to find any trace of legionella bacteria in the Breezair coolers. Other comments in the report noted that no mycelia were noted on the [Chillcel] pads, suggesting there was no fungus growth [on the Chillcel panels], no bacteria nor endotoxins were released into the surrounding air and that there was no mould growth on the upper surfaces of the unit. Steve Kirkwood, sales manager for Seeley International (Europe) says, ‘By achieving VDI 6022 compliance for Breezair, we have broken through many barriers that have prevented evaporating air cooling being accepted in Germany.’
