The DACHS unit at SCORE, a £9.9 million community, sports and healthcare project is fuelled by natural gas and provides 5.5 kW of 3-phase electricity and 12.5 kW of heat. It has been supplied with an exhaust condenser to increase its heat output by about 6% and improve thermal efficiency. As a result, it is expected that the overall fuel efficiency will increase from 79% to around 82%.
Based on predicted running hours at SCORE, the DACHS unit is expected to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by about 3 t a year, a saving of about 20% compared to electricity generated by centralised power plants and heat-only boiler plant.
The mini-CHP unit is the lead appliance for space heating and producing domestic hot water. The DACHS unit and its associated equipment were installed by Aqua Mechanical Services, the main M&E contractor for the project.
