The DACHS mini-CHP from Baxi Technologies was specified to provided environmentally friendly electricity to the communal areas and heat throughout the property. It produces 12 kW of heat and 5.5 kW of 3-phase electricity, reducing the amount needed from the grid and displacing fuel used by other heating appliances. Such installations typically reduce carbon emissions by about 30%.
At Shuttleworth House, an exhaust condenser maximises thermal output and improves overall fuel efficiency by about 6%. The DACHS acts as the lead heating appliance and is support by four condensing boilers, each rated at 120 kW.
Les Thorpe, heating of investment and regeneration at Bradford Community Housing Trust, says, ‘The DACHs is the first installation of CHP within our property portfolio. It is hoped it will provide us with a working example of how this type of low-carbon technology can be utilised across our entire housing stock.’
