At the heart of back-up power system for Servebase Global Card Solutions is a Scorpion 175 kW diesel generator with a super-silent acoustic canopy and automatic mains failure.
A tailor-made backup-power solution has been devised by Scorpion Power Systems to support the expanding IT network of Servebase Global Card Solutions. Servebase is a significant player in EFTPOS and card-processing software and wanted to ensure that it could always respond to customer demand, even during a mains power failure. The company is based in Stanstead Abbotts in Hertfordshire. Its software supports all major international credit cards, a number of debit cards and niche products such as store cards. Its client base includes large retailers, call centres, Internet service providers, international hotels and airlines. Any loss of power would bring the organisation to a standstill. The back-up power system was required to support operational facilities, telephones, air conditioning and essential services. The integrated system includes a standby generator. Scorpion has installed a 30 kVA UPS with SN&NP adaptor for remote monitoring and a parallel card for future expansion. The project includes a 175 kVA diesel generator that automatically starts on mains failure, tests itself each week and is equipped with remote dial-out so that the system can be checked as part of a building-management system. The generator delivers computer-grade power at all times. When the mains supply is restored after a failure, it is monitored for stability before the generator is shut down.
