Electrothermic actuators designed for reliability
Published:  October 2004

Designed for the automatic on/off control of radiators, fan-coil units etc. is the 22C range of actuators from Watts Martin Orgee.

The design of a new series of electrothermic actuators for the automatic on/off control of valves on radiators, fan-coil units and manifolds is based on an analysis of the failure mode of similar products. 22C actuators consist of only a few components, and they are made using modern techniques to produce an overall robust design and reliable performance. They are available from Watts Martin Orgee.

A wax thermostatic element is activated by a thermistor with a positive temperature coefficient responding to a signal sent by a room thermostat or timing thermostat. The reinforced resin of the base provides a strong structure for the valve fitting area, and self lubrication of the mobile support creates minimal friction.

There are four versions of these actuators: normally closed; normally open, standard 2-wire; and 4-wire with auxiliary contact for additional commands. They are all available for 230 and 24 V operation.

A transparent window on the cover enables the status of the actuator to be visually checked.
