Delivering domestic hot water at safe temperatures — Honeywell’s range of thermostatic mixing valves meets a wide range of safety standards.
Honeywell offers a range of valves to control the temperature of hot water to wash-hand basins, showers and baths. They conform to standards such as Buildcert TM3 for healthcare premises and the domestic TMV2. Other valves comply with the TMV3 standard to offer the maximum protection for facilities used by vulnerable people such as the elderly, young children or the mentally or physically disabled. Honeywell explains that the problem of scalding water has become more acute in communal and public buildings because hot water must be stored at 60°C or more to prevent risks from legionella bacteria and distributed at a minimum of 50°C — which is dangerously hot for baths, so there must be fail-safe mixing control at the outlet to prevent scalding. These thermostatic mixing valves have a highly sensitive wax element which controls the inlets for hot and cold water to provide a safe, uniform temperature. They also automatically shut off the hot water if the cold supply fails. A lockable safety cap displays the temperature set point and prevents unauthorised adjustment.
