This 6-storey building on Hammersmith Road was opened in 1985 as the headquarters of Lyons Group but has been a multi-tenanted building since 1991. The original heating and cooling systems are only now being replaced. Dave Evans, director of Microfix Infrastructure Services, which is installing the VRF solution, explains, ‘Apart from its age, the old system could not cope adequately with peak summer temperatures — and it was never designed to handle the additional heat load resulting from the dramatic growth of computers over the past 20 years.’
Most of the building’s heating and cooling requirements are being met by VRF heat-recovery units in the basement car park and on the roof. They produce 56 kW of cooling and 63 kW of heating and are linked to ducted indoor units on each of the six floor s as they are refurbished for tenants.
A ducted inverter unit from Panasonic’s FS Flexi System range has been installed to cool the reception area.
The new systems are controlled by tenants, and the landlord can accurately measure energy use.
