BSRIA enlarges its testing facilities

BSRIA has boosted the capability of its test facilities with the completion of a new 230 m2 laboratory. It complements the existing 810 m2 laboratory, which can test over 30 types of building-services products, and offers the industry independent accreditation services and expertise for product development, certification and performance verification. This enlarged capability will help manufacturers make better products, gain and maintain access to the global market, and make product quality and safety their competitive edge by meeting British, European, Eurovent, American and industry standards and product-performance requirements. The new laboratory is the only independent testing facility in Europe to test weather louvres against EN13030, the European standard developed by BSRIA for the Hevac Association. It is also the only facility in the UK accredited by UKAS to type-test powered smoke and heat exhaust ventilators to the new European Standard, EN 12101-3. This is a vital step in obtaining CE making, mandatory in the EU after April 2005. This test facility is the only one in the UK for testing the performance of air cleaners. The test method devised by BSRIA demonstrates the ability of an air cleaner to reduce the levels of tobacco smoke in a space and determines its air-volume flow and comparative acoustic performance. The test is a requirement for manufacturers joining the Air Cleaner Manufacturers’ Association.
