Reznor helps deliver efficient heating and cooling for City lawyers

An inaccessible basement plant room called for a lateral approach for installing a new heating system for one of the City Of London’s landmark buildings — 10 Queen Street Place, EC4, now occupied by European law firm S. J. Berwin. In an extensive refurbishment and extension project by The Blackstone Group, the building on Southwark Bridge has been transformed into state-of-the-art commercial premises, which include offices, retail space and a ground-floor car park. The entrance has been remodelled, and there is a new double-height atrium and a high-level garden overlooking the Thames on a previously empty roof. To heat the 28 000 m2 building, AHU manufacturer Klimatherm engineered two warm air heaters, each with an output of 625 kW. They measure 11 x 4.5 x 3.5 m and were to be placed on top of each other in the basement plant room. Access to the plant room could only be gained from the car park. A hole was cut in the concrete floor of the car park and the flat-pack AHUs lowered in to the space beneath and re-assembled in situ. Thee AHUs draw in air from outside and heat or cool it using the Reznor RHC coil fitted in the unit and filter it. The tempered air is circulated around the building by wall-mounted fan-coil units are regulate air temperature and quality in individual areas of the building.
