Broag supplies biomass boiler for new London academy
Published:  May 2008

Helping to reduce carbon emissions from the new Walthamstow Academy is a Broag biomass boiler, supported by gas-fired condensing boilers.

The carbon footprint of the new Walthamstow Academy in London has been reduced by the installation of a 120 kW biomass boiler from Broag. It is fuelled by compressed wood pellets fed from a store on the ground floor next to the first-floor plant room.

The boiler was installed by Franklin M&E Services of Chelmsford.

Biomass pellets have an estimated total carbon footprint of 50 to 60 kg/MWh (carbon dioxide), compared with a typical estimate of 230 kg/MWh for natural gas.

The biomass boiler is supported by two Broag 610 Eco modulating condensing boilers.

Broag offers a range of biomass boilers with outputs from 50 to 2000 kW.
