Ground-source system for Mansfield hospital could be the largest in Europe

Skanska is installing a 5.4 MW ground-source cooling system for a new hospital in Mansfield, following approval to proceed with the installation of a renewable ground-source heat-pump system at Kings Mill Hospital. The closed-loop system can also provide supplementary low-grade heat to the gas-fired boiler installation when the demand for cooling is low. Geothermal International has been employed by Skanska to develop and deliver the scheme. COPs of 4 to 7 are expected to be achieved, considerably reducing energy bills and carbon-dioxide emissions.
