Controller avoids boiler cycling to meet standing losses

Sabien
Retrofitting Sabien MG2 controllers to these boilers in a Norwich Union building has reduced energy consumption by 17% by eliminating boiler cycling to offset standing losses.

By eliminating the cycling of boilers to compensate for standing heat losses, Sabien Technology’s M2G controller can reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions by 10 to 25%, depending on site conditions and applications.

This device can be readily fitted to an existing boiler. One example is Norwich Union, where savings of 17% are being achieved. Another installation for O2 has reduced boiler energy consumption by 27%. These savings are over and above those achieved by other approaches such as a BEMS or weather compensation.

The MG2 uses two digital temperature probes to monitor flow and return temperatures to the boiler every 10 s. Built-in software calculates the temperature gradient over time and determines when the boiler should fire to meet building demand — eliminating unnecessary boiler cycling. The MG2 qualifies for Enhanced Capital Allowances.

Sabien has also been appointed as an approved supplier to the London Green500 programme, which focuses on reducing the energy consumption and carbon emissions of London’s 500 largest organisations.
