Chimneys bring fresh air into classrooms of new Barnsley Academy

The control of ventilation in the new Barnsley Academy is independently controlled in each classroom via a BMS installed by BG Controls.

Ventilation for the 43 classrooms in the new Barnsley Academy is controlled by a building-management system installed by BG Controls.

NG Bailey appointed BG Controls to install the building-management system, whose function includes the operation of fresh-air chimneys throughout the buildings.

A fan extracts stale air from each room and up a chimney, to be replaced by fresh air drawn in through windows. Staff can control the amount of air entering vents into a classroom via wall-mounted control box. A pushbutton provides a fan boost if needed. At night, the fresh air vents are closed.
