New boilers improve efficiency for One Facility

Ideal Boilers, boiler

Six ImaxW 100 kW boilers from Ideal have been installed to improve the efficiency of the heating system at One Facility’s MBDA site in Bristol. Unitary Engineering Services carried out an audit of the old system, which comprised two banks of five boilers, and recommended the installation of new high-efficiency condensing boilers.

Tim Clarke, mechanical engineer with Unitary, explains, ‘The existing heating system served radiators and heating batteries in the air-handling units. When air-conditioning heat pumps were installed into half of the property, new boiler plant was required to serve the remainder and offer enhanced efficiency for the areas without air conditioning.

‘One of our key considerations was the location of the boiler plant. The existing boilers used a flue-dilution system and were floor mounted, so they took up a significant amount of space. The client requested that the room remained as clear as possible and that the flue dilution was removed.’

Simon Maggs, business-development manager with Ideal, comments, ‘MBDA is an excellent example of the benefits that are to be had by commercial operations who choose to upgrade their heating system.’
