Fan convectors replace radiators to deliver greater comfort in village hall

Fan convectors from Smith’s Environmental Products installed in this village hall in County Durham have solved all the problems of the previous radiator system.

The unsatisfactory heating provided by radiators for Mickleton Village Hall in County Durham has been solved by replacing them with Caspian fan convectors from Smith’s Environmental Products. The hall hosts a variety of private and business functions, as well as theatre shows, musical and parish council meetings. The bar area doubles as the village Post Office during the week.

David Hutchinson, chairman of the Teesdale Village Halls Constitution explains that tests showed that the radiators had to be turned on a whole day in advance to heat the hall to a bearable temperature. They also discovered an 8 K difference in temp­erature between the floor and the ceiling. ‘Heat was being trapped up high and not circulated around the room. We had to get something that would heat the room up more quickly.’

The hall’s 3 m-long dual convector radiators were replaced with six Caspian fan convectors. Four units were installed in the main hall and another behind the bar., along with a Space Saver. One unit was installed in the upstairs meeting room and an Ecovector in the entrance hall.

They were installed following some online research, and David Hutchinson observes, ‘This was certainly the correct decision, as they heat the hall up to a comfortable level within half an hour, plus the temperature difference between the floor and ceiling is at a minimal. Hot-water demands are also met instantly, due to the digital thermostat that we have installed.’
