Envirotec air curtains harmonise with Westfield London Shopping Centre

Bespoke air curtains from Envirotec harmonise with the architectural form of the Westfield London Shopping Centre.

Envirotec has supplied and installed 20 bespoke air curtains in the Westfield London Shopping Centre in west London. The initial specification called for standard recessed LPHW air curtains with standard controls. However, close liaison between Envirotec and architects Buchan Group International led to the air curtains becoming a visual feature to complement the architectural form of the building. Energy efficiency, ease of installation and straightforward access for maintenance were also considered essential criteria.

The final design of an elliptical casing echoes the curvaceous nature of the interior architecture. The cases are 2 m long, 900 mm wide and 500 mm high and mounted 3 m above the finished floor level

For maximum efficiency, each unit has a separate control valve. A bespoke control system uses Envirotec’s Enetec controller to control fans and heater to maintain a temperature of 21°C with minimum energy consumption.

Envirotec’s site-services team installed these air curtains. Special brackets were made to suit the building’s steelwork. Much of the installation was done out-of-hours to minimise disruption to on-site trades and ensure on-time delivery during the critical final stages of construction.
