Romsey hotel safeguards its electrical power supply with Powercall

Shenton Group, Powercall, standby power, standby generator
In the event of a power cut to this hotel in Romsey, Shenton Group’s Powercall service will deliver an emergency generator within the hour.

Potters Heron Hotel at Romsey, Hants, has contracted with Shenton Group’s Powercall emergency-generator service to provide power within the hour as part of its planning for emergency and business continuity. Part of Pebble Hotels, this picture-postcard hotel has a distinctive thatched roof and offers 54 ensuite rooms, conference and meeting facilities and a newly refurbished pub and restaurant.

The hotel’s location makes it vulnerable to power cuts. One on Boxing Day 2009 lasted 36 h, and the hotel was unable to run its seasonal functions. The existing small standby generator only served the lighting. Chris Bailey, general manager of the hotel, explained, ‘This major power cut focused our minds on the need for additional power support, as it not only caused disruption but also resulted in a battle with the insurance company regarding loss of earnings and freezer failure.

‘A larger generator would have required a large financial outlay, maintenance and recabling, whereas the Powercall solution is extremely cost effective, and we have the peace of mind of knowing our complete site will be up and running within one hour if a power cut occurs.’

The guaranteed maximum time for a generator to arrive on site is three hours. The Powercall service can support sites with a single- or 3-phase electricity supply up to 100 A.
