Daikin air conditioners carry SEER labels

In readiness for EU requirements being introduced in January 2013, two new ranges of light-commercial air-conditioning products from Daikin are labelled with the seasonal energy-efficiency rating (SEER). This is a requirement for air-conditioning units with a cooling capacity of up to 12 kW under the EcoDesign standards of the Energy Related Product Directive. The ranges are the Sky Air Seasonal Smart and the Seasonal Classic.

Daikin claims to be the first company to label products with an SEER and that the new Sky Air Seasonal Smart product is about 25% more efficient than competitor products in the same class.

At the top of the range, the Seasonal Smart (RZQG) unit is around 34% more efficient that the already very efficient Seasonal Inverter (RZQ) range.

The seasonal Classic (RZQSG) range is also 27% more efficient than the previously Seasonal Inverter range and replaces the Comfort Inverter (RZQS) range, which is being phased out.

Controllers offer a range of energy-saving modes. One mode uses optional presence sensors to allow room temperature to drift away from set point when the room is empty and restore set point when it is occupied again. Over a 3-hour period, presence sensors can reduce running costs by up to 27%.
