National Express benefits from voltage optimisation
As part of a roll-out of energy-efficiency measures by National Express, voltage power optimisers have been installed in nine garages. They are reducing electricity consumption by an average of 16% and were installed by powerPerfector.
At Coventry Bus Station, savings of 22% have been achieved, and further energy saving measures such as radiant heating, air-source heat pumps, a metering control system and LED lighting are being considered. If successful, these measures will be applied to other National Express sites.
Phase one of the programme of installing voltage power optimisers is saving National Express nearly £70 000 a year on energy bills and cutting carbon emissions by 550 t.
Phase two will see eight more VPO installations in the UK.
Stuart Parker, group property and environment director with National Express, says, ‘The partnership is already reaping real benefits. PowerPerfector has added value to our rail-franchise proposals as well as making great cost and carbon savings.’
All the savings achieved are independently verified by EEVS Insight.
