AHU delivers effective evaporative cooling with help of JS humidifier

JS Humidifiers’ HumEvap MC3 evaporative humidifier has been selected by Air Handling Systems to provide evaporative cooling in its OptEvent air-handling unit. The humidifier cools the return air with low-energy cold-water humidification in this packaged-heat-recovery system, which has been independently verified by BSRIA.

Working for a leading and progressive London children’s hospital, AHS developed a packaged liquid-coupled heat-recovery system to meet the hospital’s demands for hygiene, comfort and energy efficiency. The resulting OptEvent also includes a pre-programmed energy-control module to minimised the amount of energy used to meet the air requirements.

The HumEvap MC3 has a modular design and can deliver over 500 kg/h of moisture to an AHU from a single unit using just 550 W. In addition, 680 W of evaporative cooling is provided for every kilogram of moisture absorbed by the air.

Water evaporates instantly from the humidifier, so there are no aerosols or absorption distances to accommodate inside the AHU. The HumEvap can be fitted in very short distances with no danger of humidity wetting-out on ducts.

Hygienic operation is assured through the use of drain and purge cycles. By preventing water remaining in the system, bacterial growth is limited. For additional protection, the evaporative matrix is impregnated with silver, which has a powerful anti-bacterial action. There is an optional silver-ion dosing system and UV sterilisation.
