Wila luminaires deliver new light for City offices

Wila's Avic lighting fittings have been used in the category A fit out for the refurbishment of a floor in 5 New Street in the City of London, working with lighting designer GIA Equation. This office and retail development by Land Securities has a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. 62 600 m2 of office space is divided into flexible spaces.

The original lighting was installed in 2008 using DALI 900 mm louvred air-handling luminaires with a single 21 W lamp to produce an average illuminance of 400 lx.

GIA Equation’s task was to upgrade the lighting and replace the ceiling to provide a more modern feeling.

The new lighting uses 2 x 28 W replacement tile (1350 x 300 mm) Avic air-handling luminaires on a 3.9 m chequer-board layout. Conical de-glaring micro-prism optics reduce direct and reflected lamp glare by over 40% compared to louvred luminaires.

The new lighting provides over 500 lx with an installed electrical load of 1.67 W/m2/100 lx, including Wila E Connect Nero Power LED downlights and E Connect core wall washing.
