Monitoring the efficiency of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment

The ClimaCheck performance analyser for refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump systems enables system performance to be inspected and wear or problems with components to be detected without relying on preinstalled flow or kWh meters. From readings on the high and low pressure side of the compressor, a selection of temperatures on refrigeration and secondary systems and various voltage and current signals, a wide range of parameters can be measured and monitored. ClimaCheck includes software for performing calculations for a wide range of systems to calculate COP and capacity. Other results include power input, compressor isentropic efficiency, superheat and subcooling. Information on evaporator and condenser performance includes temperature difference, heat-transfer coefficient and flow rate. The measurements can be used in a variety of ways. A decrease in subcooling, for example, could be an indication of refrigerant leakage. The equipment is routinely used by Business Edge, which is making it available in the UK. Data can be stored in ClimaCheck and accessed remotely using a web browser — making it very useful for long-term remote monitoring.
