Voltage-boosting base increases compatibility of fire alarms

Fire Alarms

Klaxon Signals has introduced a voltage-boosting base as part of its Sonos range of fire alarms, which enables Sonos beacons and combined sounder-beacons to operate on a supply as low as 9 V, compared with the current minimum of 17 V d.c.

Increasing the operating range of Sonos alarms from 9 to 60 V enables them to be used in a much wider range of applications. Sonos alarms with the voltage-boosting base are now compatible with security systems using a 12 V supply, as the base increases the 12 V supply to 24 V at the sounder. By providing a 12 V supply, the voltage-boosting base increases sound output by 7 dB.
