Steel-wire cable tray provides effective support for plastics pipework

Steel-wire cable tray has been used to support plastic piping for wet heating circuits, potable water and waste water in Dane Court Grammar School in Broadstairs. M&E contractor Mechanical Services Ltd was recommended the approach by Simon Alder, marketing manger with plastics-pipe manufacturer George Fischer, for its flexibility and light weight, enabling it to be quickly positioned and installed to save time on site.

Cablofil steel-wire cable tray was used in widths of 150, 200 and 300 mm and suspended from the soffit. The pre-insulated plastics pipes were then secured in place with cable ties. Cablofil demonstrated the system before installation and provided training on site to help the contractor’s team become proficient in cutting, shaping and joining the system.

Ken Wright of MSL, says, ‘We found the Cablofil system very easy to install, and the training the company provided meant that the whole team was really comfortable with it from day one — even though none of us had ever used steel-wire cable tray before. It is certainly an installation method that we will use again in the future.’
