Refurbishment project includes Dimplex heat pumps

Heating for this swimming pool at a hotel and leisure club in Wales is provided by Dimplex heat pumps installed as part of a refurbishment.

Dimplex heat pumps have been installed as part of a £1.2 million refurbishment of Miskin Manor, a Grade 2 listed hotel and leisure club in Wales. The refurbishment combines facilities upgrades with technology to reduce energy costs and environmental impact.

Amanda Rosenberg, Miskin’s group facilities manager, explains, ‘We wanted to achieve the best of all worlds in terms of environmental measures and control. Lower fuel bills are the key, but it’s equally important to be able to regulate temperatures easily to accommodate the needs of different user groups from our 2000-strong member base. And the control is quite literally pushbutton.’

Dimplex installer partner WDS Environmental designed the system, which will be extended into the main hotel building in due course. Two LA 28 AS heat pumps have been installed. One provides heating and hot water for the showers, and the other heats the swimming pool. There is spare capacity for the next phase of the refurbishment programme.

The heat pump serving the swimming pool is connected to a hot-water and air-handling unit, with a 500 litre buffer tank to meet demand as required.

The family-run business took a strategic, long-term business decision to invest in low-carbon technology — the first phase of which has a project cost of over £100 000.
