Douglas Delabie makes the grade at grammar school

Douglas Delabie, shower, plumbing

Modernisation of the entire site of Lancaster Royal Grammar School includes upgrading shower facilities in School House (formerly Gardner House) and Frankland House. Douglas Delabie Tempomix crosswall showers and sporting shower panels were selected to meet pupil needs and those of parents, who have increasingly high expectations of more personal, high-quality, safe shower facilities — rather than group showering that has been the norm in the past.

Architects Thomas Worthington Design were looking for a combined timeflow and temperature push-button control crosswall shower for School House. Their research found that the TempoMix was the most appropriate on the market, and about 50 units were fitted.

These showers automatically shut off after 30 s and have a regulated flow rate that can be adjusted to save water. They are vandal resistant and have a reinforced wall plate. Cartridge design reduces the build up of scale. Following the success in School House, six Douglas Delabie sporting shower panels were specified for Frankland House. These showers have a preset flow of 8 l/min. They are vandal resistant and can stand up to heavy use.

These prefabricated shower panes are second-fix items — requiring just three wall fixings. The nozzle-head shower jet reduces the build up of scale and has a serviceable cartridge.
