Atkins shows the way towards sustainable refurbishment

Atkins, sustainable refurbishment
Showing the way to sustainable refurbishment — the newly renovated offices of Atkins at Derby.

Staff from design-and-engineering company Atkins have moved into renovated offices at Derby, with carbon reduction at the core of the refurbishment. The projects team for Atkins Asset Management managed the refurbishment of the site from start to finish — putting sustainability into every concept of the design, specification and construction phases of the project.

To ensure the continuing energy-efficient operation of Trent House and Derwent House, ArT (Atkins remote Technology) has been installed. This web-based system operates continuously to collect energy data, whilst remotely monitoring and controlling energy usage and environmental conditions on individual sites.

Louise Page, project manager for the Derby site, says, ‘I was able to get complete buy-in from both the project team and contractors to the sustainability aspirations for the project. This added real momentum and energy to the project. We are all delighted with the final results, producing a building which is now a great advert for sustainable refurbishments.’
