Advanced Victaulic system reduces installation time at a data centre

The fast-jointing capabilities in large sizes of Victaulic’s Advanced Grooved System were used to reduce installation time for the cooling system of a data centre in Essex.

To help reduce the time needed to install the cooling system for the data centre of a financial institution in Essex, Victaulic’s Advanced Grooved System (AGS) is used for distributing chilled water. It replaced the originally specified welded and threaded system and involved pipes up to 350 mm in diameter in runs of up to 60 m. The Victaulic approach also eliminated the need for hot working.

Peter Dulieu, contracts manager with consultants Hilson Moran, explains, ‘Welding that size of pipework would have meant a considerable increase in labour time and costs, so we recommended Victaulic as an alternative. Using Victaulic speeds up the process very much and has the added advantage of cleanliness over welding.

The AGS groove is wider and deeper than standard grooved systems, and the wider gasket gives more contact area for better sealing. The 2-piece coupling speeds up handling and installation time, and a union at every joint makes for easy adjustment, system maintenance and expansion.
