Care group uses Powercall service to provide rapid-response standby power

Powercall, standby power
Cost-effective standby power for 17 care homes operated by Colten Care Group will be provided within an hour by Powercall UK.

Standby power in the event of a power cut will be available within an hour at 17 residential homes operated by Colten Care Group following a contract with power-support company Powercall UK. Colten runs care homes throughout Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire, and many elderly residents rely on powered equipment to improve their quality of life.

Colten Care realised that a prolonged power cut could have an adverse effect on the wellbeing of residents. Having looked at the options available, John Carter, Colten’s plant and transport manager, selected the Powercall UK solution.

He explains, ‘Even for a medium-sized company like ours, investing in generators for each of our 17 homes, plus maintenance, refuelling etc. would be a huge expenditure. We initially trialled the service at our Kingfishers residential home in New Maldon, and within minutes of calling Powercall, a generator was on its way and was delivered within one hour.’

Each home is now fitted with a connection point for a generator.

‘Powercall’s nationwide network of on-call generators is a cost-effective solution to providing standby power for our care homes. It means we can ensure our homes continue to provide our residents with essential services such as heating, lighting, security systems, safety equipment and electrically operated beds when power cuts occur.’
