Hamworthy boilers help achieve ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating

Hamworthy Heating, condensing boiler
Energy-efficient and low-NOx heating for the Hive development in Manchester is provided by a trio of Wessex boilers from Hamworthy Heating.

Condensing boilers from Hamworthy Heating are making a valuable contribution to the excellent environment credential’s of the Hive development in northern Manchester. This new hub for creative businesses provides nearly 7500 m2 of cutting-edge office space and workspace. The project has a BREEAM ’Excellent’ rating and a Grade B Energy Performance rating. Its heating requirements are met by three 250 kW Modumax modules installed in vertical format.

Dave Grzelka of the building’s M&E services designer NPS North West says, ‘The “B” Energy Performance rating is as good as it gets for a naturally ventilated building.’

The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating requires both low NOx and carbon emissions. Wessex boilers achieve European Class 5 performance for NOx emissions. The burners modulate down to 20% of full output per module to achieve very close matching to load. Standing losses are less than 1%. The controls package has been tailored to meet the exact needs of the heating system, integrating the boiler and other system components for a cohesive solution.
