Energy-efficient and quiet air conditioning for this hotel in Dublin is provided by Ability Evolution fan-coil units.

One of the short-listed entries for the World Building of the Year 2010 award, the new Gibson Hotel in Dublin, features air conditioning for guest rooms provided by Ability Evolution 4-pipe fan-coil units with ECDC fan motors to give infinitely variable speed control and an 89% saving in fan energy compared with equivalent AC units. This hotel has around 250 bedrooms and is close to the O2 in Dublin.

The fan-coil units serving guest rooms have cooling capacities from 2.7 to 3.8 kW and heating from 1.9 to 2.9 kW. They have a noise rating of NR30 against 10 Pa. To overcome space restrictions on this project, the units have shortened discharge plena to reduce their overall length to 700 mm. Electrical enclosures are mounted on the rear for ease of access. The coil connections are also on the rear, with rear pipe entry for rear-facing valves. The junction box is also at the rear. All this equipment can be accessed through a single hatch.
