Sontay supplies sensors for new hospital in Malta
Over 1500 building-control peripherals and field devices have been supplied by Sontay for one of the largest building-automation projects in Malta. The Mater Dei Hospital is a state-of-the-art acute teaching hospital in Tal Qroqq Malta. The Sontay devices are linked to the Siemens building-management system and include differential-pressure switches, temperature sensors, liquid-pressure sensors and switches, liquid-level switches and sensors and air-quality sensors.
Controls specialist Engineering for Science & Industry (ESI) selected Sontay TT sensors for a wide range of applications at the hospital. They include sensors to measure air temperature in air-conditioning ductwork, immersion sensors to monitor water temperature at various points in the pipework system and space sensors to provide readings of air temperature in operating theatres, patient wards, treatment rooms and other spaces.
In addition, nearly 650 PA-604 differential-pressure switches provide an important indicator of fan status and ‘filter dirty’ conditions in the air-conditioning and ventilation plant.
The BMS is based on a Siemens S7 PLC system with a Siemens WinCC SCADA system to control and monitor the hospital. The BMS monitors and controls all HVAC plant, corridor lighting, lifts and escalators, medical gases, generator sets, pumps, boilers, calorifiers, heat exchangers and other equipment. It also controls life-safety systems such as fire smoke dampers and smoke fans. It also provides a critical link between HVAC plant and the fire-alarm system.
