Plastic pipe provides metal alternative for student residences

Durapipe, pipes, pipework
Durapipe’s HTA pipework in this student residential block avoided metal theft and made for quick and simple installation.

Durapipe HTA plastic pipes have been installed to carry hot and cold water in a 7-storey student accommodate block at Northumbria University. Winn Studios comprises 396 rooms, which are divided into self-contained flats and studios. To avoid the problem of metal theft, contractor Norstead Mechanical & Electrical Engineer specified the installation of Durapipe HTA in sizes from 25 to 110 mm to transport water from the main storage tank in the basement and distribute it to individual stop taps in each flat.

As well as avoiding the problem of metal theft, this pipework is quick and easy to install and avoids the need for hot works or skilled welders through the use of a simple cold-weld jointing technique. It is also light in weight and resistant to corrosion and limescale.
