B&ES supports RHI for air-to-water heat pumps in commercial projects
The Building & Engineering Services Association has given its support to the inclusion of air-to-water heat pumps in the Renewable Heat Incentive for the non-domestic sector. In its response to a Government consultation, the association also stresses the importance of a standard one-size-fits-all tariff to promote the most efficient system configuration.
The association does not think that support for air-to water heat pumps should be banded by size, on the basis that such an approach would introduce inefficiency and unnecessary complication into what should be a straightforward system design problem.
B&ES believes that the European Commission’s guidance reflects best practice, but emphasises that the RHI should only apply where the system is tested in accordance with BS EN 14825:2012 and with BS EN 15316-4-2:2008.
If a minimum seasonal performance factor is required as part of the application process, B&ES suggests that a more appropriate measure would be the seasonal coefficient performance for heating — as defined in BS EN 14825.
