Work starts on student accommodation at University of Herts

3000 student bedrooms are being provided for the University of Hertfordshire by Uliving.

A £190 million project to provide student accommodation at The University of Hertfordshire on its College Lane campus in Hatfield has reached financial closure. The off-balance-sheet project involves the Uliving consortium designing, building, financing and operating the accommodation, comprising over 3000 bedrooms and associated social spaces and infrastructure works.

The new buildings will achieve a ‘true’ zero-carbon accreditation and meet BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ requirements under the 2011 regulations.

The consortium comprises Bouygues Development and not-for-profit housing association Derwent Living. The agreement is with Meridiam Infrastructure and Legal & General.

Bouygues Development will manage the development and construction management of the project. Derwent Living will be responsible for its operation and facilities management over 50 years

The scheme will be delivered in three phases, with the first commencing immediately and scheduled for completion in September 2014 for the 2014/15 academic year. Subsequent phases will be completed in time for academic years, with the entire scheme completed in September 2016.
