In a new light, galleries in the National Portrait Gallery are now lit by LED luminaires from Erco.

A project to upgrade lighting in the gallery spaces of the National Portrait Gallery made fully use of Lumicom’s disposal services to ensure that all the luminaires removed were disposed of responsibly. The project involved replacing100 W tungsten-halogen spotlights with low-energy Erco LED fittings from 12 to 14W.

The work substantially reduced the installed load and associated energy consumption.

Chris Tiernan, managing director of Erco, commented: ‘The National Portrait Gallery has a strong commitment to sustainability and is continually looking for opportunities to reduce environmental impact. As we are members of Lumicom, the ability to take advantage of this service has added to the green credentials of the project, beyond the energy savings achieved.’
