VRF air conditioning proves its capabilities on a large scale

Multi 2
Demonstrating its ability to air-condition large-scale applications is Toshiba’s Super Heat Recovery Multi 2 at a project in West London.
The capabilities of Toshiba’s SHRM2 VRF air-conditioning equipment to serve large-scale applications is being demonstrated in a office building in West London. Accredited installer Metainy Building Services Group has installed nine systems to serve one floor of a 3-storey prestige office block. The fully glazed existing building needed a new system that could respond rapidly to high solar gain, without working time being lost during the refurbishment. 63 indoor units cover a mixture of open-plan and partitioned office and meeting-room spaces. The air is delivered by 4-way diffusers. R410A is the refrigerant. It is envisaged that the whole building will be refurbished using this technology. The new systems are replacing an aging 4-pipe fan-coil system. The heat-recovery capability of SHRM2 will enable exceptional efficiency to be achieved at part load. The COP at full load is 3.83, and greater at part load. Its ability to serve large areas is due to the 125 m permissible separation between indoor and outdoor units, with a 50 m lift. The system’s ability to self address reduces installation time.
