Success for Sontay SIP at sixth-form college

Sontay, wireless, network, controls, BMS

The newly formed Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre in east London has a building-management system that incorporates Sontay’s SonNet Powered by SIP wireless sensing system. Created by the amalgamation of an old technical college, former planning office and public library, the centre is a Grade 2 listed building.

The BMS was installed by TRI Control Systems and enables the college to monitor space temperatures for the purpose of controlling the underfloor heating.

The installation includes seven SonNet sensors alongside SIP interfaces, enabling SonNet to work alongside a Trend BMS.

The multi-million centre includes nine new science laboratories (including a particle physics laboratory) a biomedical science laboratory and a bio-diversity laboratory. There is also a student and tutorial centre, which includes a newly equipped library and learning resource centre, a student social centre and cafe. SonNet sensors have been installed in six laboratories and in the lobby area.

Signals from the wireless sensors are transmitted to a SonNet RF-RXS receive, which in turn can be read by a controller through the intelligent SIP interfaced.

The SIP range interfaces between the Sontay SonNet wireless receiver and the Trend BMS. The product was developed by a partnership between Sontay and Synapsys.

Neville Cockburn, sales director at TRI Control Systems says, ‘SIP technology is tried and tested in the UK BMS industry. The building is Grade 2 listed, so the use of wireless technology came into its own due to the usual difficulties involved in installing electrical cables and containment in such buildings.’
