Hamworthy helps Boscastle hotel back to business as usual

Following serious damage to the Wellington Hotel in Boscastle, Cornwall, by flash floods in August 2004, the heating and hot-water requirements are served by a Hamworthy Milborne 502 wall-hung modular condensing boiler with an output of 100 kW. The hotel was closed for nine months while restoration work was carried out, with assistance from the BBC’s ’Changing rooms’ team. Before the floods, the hotel had bought a new boiler. While it was awaiting installation, it was washed out to sea. Paul Roberts, proprietor of the hotel, said, ‘The Wellington was the worst affected building in the village, as we suffered substantial damage to three floors, with 170 tonnes of debris removed during the restoration work.’ The Milborne 502 boiler has two 50 kW heat exchangers in a single compact casing. Its high-efficiency design results in flue-gas temperatures just 5 K above the return-water temperature, enabling a 50 mm-diameter polypropylene flue system to be installed. An additional advantage for this hotel is the ability of the boiler to be room sealed, enabling it to be conveniently located in the hotel’s narrow plantroom.
